Hi, I have a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 1TB
It is almost 4 years old.
It had malware after I let my friend borrow if from me.
The videos/movies in the drive began lagging erratically.
I ran multiple virus/malware scans to fix the problem.
I even formatted the drive.
After formatting the drive, I tried to put video files in it and the video files still lag.
I tried to use the drive in other computers but the lagging is still persistent.
I seriously need your help guys, it will be duly appreciated.

Solution
Unfortunately, your HDD has some bad sectors on it.
They would continue to appear, until the drive becomes unresponsive and fails.

You need to get all the important data off the drive.

The thing is that you can't really know when it is going to fail. As it is most probably not under warranty, you can just use it for storing non important data.

Hi there DIAMONDBACK04,

Unfortunately, most probably the drive is failing. This is why, you can start with just taking the data off the drive.

After that, you can test it with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Look for pending/reallocated and uncorrectable sectors in the SMART report.

Do you have a spare cable? In case you do, you can attach the drive with a different USB cable to another computer. See if that would make any difference.

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Hey man, I tried using different USB cables too. It's still lagging.
And what do you mean by "failing"? As in my drive is dying?
I just installed HD Tune what am I supposed to do next?
Thanks!

Yeah, it could be dying. We can't really know that for sure yet.

Just start the tool and observe the Health tab.
It would be nice to post screenshots of the graph and the health tab. Just upload the screenshots to an image hosting website and post the links.

Cheers,
