hi, i can get the ViewSonic VG171B for 700 new. is that a good deal instead of the compaq 7020. the only think that worries me is that i cant adjust the hight on the monitor. or maybe i can... i dont know. please give me fast reponses on this monitor and if you think its a good choice, also pelase state why

thanx

IMO, not a good LCD. The response time is 40ms, and there are better LCD's for that price. Try Samsung. They have way better 17" LCDs and have more options to choose from.

ok, but the compaq 7020 have the same response time, right.

are you sure this is a bad choice. the thign is that PCworld gave this 4.5/5 stars and said this was the best monitor. i get so confused who to trust and everything

To be honest, I just don't know. The 17.4" monitors most likely use the same LCD and have similar performance. I sure wish there were a comprehensive test of all the LCDs out there. This is clearly lacking.

If there is any way to try using the LCD while browsing the web or playing games before buying would be the best test. Another excellant way is to purchase from someone that has a 100% guarantee for a period of time so that you could return it if you don't like it. Baring that, it's going to be hard to get consensus.

There are several people here that have the TFT7020 and most seem to be very happy. Other than that, I don't know if you're going to get much more help here.

i started to look at the samsung 171B. and damn I am impressed. i think i will try to get that one, its a little more expensive but its worth the extra $ i think. i am thinking of buying through dell.com do you know if they have 100% guarantee.

thanx for you help

The 17.4" monitors most likely use the same LCD and have similar performance.
Every 17.4" LCD i've seen has been an MVA panel, which are different than the VG171 or TFT7020, and seem to perform differently.

im getting the samsung SyncMaster 171B 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor from dell for a 741.56 with tax and shipping, thats a good price i think, i will order it later today, if there are noone who thinks that this monitor is bad or have any think agains it

but damn, i notice this one does not have a dvi input🙁 grrr, i need a dvi, hmmm someone help me to find a good monitor under $800

Oh yeah, one more thing- prof, Viewsonic is a pretty large company, and there's a good chance you'll be able to take a look at VG171 in a store. I remember at some shop in the palisades mall, there were like 20 LCD displays!

Good news! Compusa should have the VG171!

Uh....not according to the specs. You on crack?

If it is that in Digital, though I haven't seen that posted anywhere yet, then go for the 170T. Has DVI too. Like I said, Samsung has a lot of choices.

However, I would make sure Flame and wouldn't go assuming yet. Remember, don't say it's a fact unless you know it's a fact.

whats the difference between 170p and 170T?. the thing is that i dont want to soend much money, i thogutht that the dell.com deal was good but then i figure it did not have a dvi🙁 i want a good monitor without takeing my lifesavings

is there a big difference of a analog or a digital, because i jsut found out my local store have a samsung 170sTFT for 600+tax.

i maybe shoudl try to get that one. wehat do you think

From teh specs, the 170s looks decent. The difference between digital and analog depends on the monitor really. As for the 171P, I could swear I saw it written on a webpage- just need to find it.
