Hi I have recently purchase an ASUS Z170-A ATX LGA 1151 Motherboard and an Intel i5 6600k processor. I picked up Patriot Viper 16gb (2x8gb) DDR4 3200Mhz ram. In the motherboard manual this ram is not listed under approved vendors. I understand that this ram is designed for intel x99 and 100 series platforms and I do not think the Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard is compatible with the ram because in the manual of the motherboard it states in the qualified vendors list RAM cards that are compatible and this card is not listed. On the box of the motherboard it says DDR4 3000 O.C. Please let me know if you think this RAM is compatible and/or what I should do? Thanks and best wishes

Solution
The Vipers should work fine 😉 When ready, give them a try, then if any problems let us know. Until you try we won't know for sure, as not all 6600Ks can carry 3200 DRAM at stock so may need a bit of a CPU OC to run 3200. For basics though, when ready for the DRAM, install and see if it boots up, when first installed the DRAM should boot to the mobo's default of 2133 😉
So you recommend not returning the RAM and getting a different one. Also I have no idea how to update the bios because I haven't even plugged in the power yet. (This is my first build)

I am just unsure on how to actually overclock or even be able to read how fast the ram is running. I can detect the temperature of my components using corsair link but I have almost no idea on how to find out my clock speeds. Does the computer overclock by itself or do I have to set it to overclock in the bios?
