Hi, I would like to know how much RAM you think I should allocate to a Windows XP SP3 installation In VirtualBox. I will be using it to play older games Like Star Craft Broodwar and Myst/Riven (with Steam).
My current system (Win7 64) has 8GB of RAM.

Thanks.

I went with 2GB for now and will see how that goes. If it comes down to it, I do have an old PC with XP on it, but it's just a matter of finding room for it. Even then, it's almost a 12 year old PC and pretty slow.

Thanks =)

Might be slow for modern usage, but probably will work great for a retro-gaming system with very little work. I have three systems I use for this, One I built from scratch being the oldest one, but the other two belonged to me and my grandmother at one point. Did a CPU upgrade, RAM, upgrade, and GPU upgrade, and for about $25 had them running a lot faster to do the work needed. Basically between them and my modern system there isn't a game I can't play without excellent results.

System 1: Windows 98 SE
Intel Pentium III 1Ghz
Voodoo3 3000
512MB RAM
12GB HDD

System 2: Windows XP (Main XP system)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2Ghz (Overclocked to 2.4Ghz)
ATI Radeon x800pro (Overclocked)
2GB DDR (Overclocked to 440Mhz)
320GB HDD

System 3: WIndows XP (More of just an extra really. Doesn't get much use as the motherboard died soon after building)
Intel Pentium D 3.4Ghz Presler 95w TDP
2GB DDR2 800Mhz
160GB HDD
Currently no GPU selected, had an Nvidia GT 430 but pulled it as a small dedicated PhysX card.
