Virus is still active !!??

aghh i found a virus it was more like spyware or w/e but i found the process and followed it to the file and deleted the files after ending the processes. Still i can't open vegas pro 10 and it is because of the virus and i was wondering is it because the file is still there? cause i know files aren't completely gone until overwritten so how do i completely get rid of it?
