My idiot cousin installed some shady "Android data recovery" software on my computer and it obviously didn't work and just installed a virus on my computer! The virus pretends to be "Windows10UpdateAssistant". It will come up randomly and say computer needs to restart in 30 minutes. I have windows updates PERMANENTLY disabled, the services do not run, and I know this is not the real software. I killed it in task manager and went to the directory. It is about 3.14GB in size and is on my C drive and is just labled "windows10updateassistant". I deleted it but today it came back again! I have avast free antivirus and I ran it but it still doesnt detect it! How can I get rid of this?

Thank you!

try removing the virus that way, if it doesn't work try malwarebytes you can do a manual scan malwarebytes is very powerful

Ok so I ran malwarebytes and it didnt detect anything. Apparently it isn't a virus, and its just a new shitty way of microsoft to force updates. I think I managed to break it after messing around in task scheduler

Thanks for the update! We're glad you found the root cause. If it had ended up being due to the software your cousin installed, our software wouldn't have seen it as a virus since your cousin would have given it permission to be on your computer.
