2 question. The first one is if I have a virus can it cause damage to my computer and if I reset it can I still have the virus afterwords, can It attached to my windows . 2 question is is there any sites you can go to to get softwares look at to make sure there not virus I downloaded a software off nexus mods usually safe but the software came up as a virus on virus total and windows defender the poster of the software said it was a false positive just want to make sure it’s not malware.

For a virus to damage a computer it would have to interfere with the hardware in some way, like alter the voltage of the CPU for example to an unsafe level. I've never heard of them doing this personally.

If your concerned about Malware then I would recommend scanning you machine with something like Malwarebytes (free) and doing the same with a third party anti virus solution like Norton.

Anti virus programs use behavioural analysis techniques to try and identify threats they don't know about. It's this that often leads to false positives. I write programs on my PC, I've found occasionally these are identified as threats by Anti Virus software.

It depends on what the virus is trying to do. But most malware these days won't intentionally destroy your system because it's better served as a slave.

And yes, viruses can persist after you reset the computer.

There are some companies that offer this kind of service (like https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload), but I'm not privy to the efficacy of them.

That depends on how you invoke the "reset".

A reset within Windows may well leave the bad things behind.

Instead, you boot from a USB, delete ALL partitions in the system, and continue with blank drive(s).
Of course, you do the install with only one drive physically connected.
