Vista does not recognize seagate external hard drive.

My laptop runs vista home premium 64-bit with AMD processor. It can no longer recognize my seagate 500G external hard drive. I tested the hard drive on xp it worked. but it fails with windows vista. kindly help

Is it showing in device management?

No, it is not. But when i connect the indicator lights come on, its just not installing. And sometimes when it installs, it cant be seen anywhere, not even in device management
