Vista fails to boot, HDD issue?

Hello,

I apologise if this is not the right subforum to post this, I'm new here.

I have Acer Aspire 7720, it worked fine until I shut it down last week and since then it won't boot. It freezes on Vista loading bar screen.

None of options in F8 menu work, when trying safe mode with command prompt it hangs at crcdisk.sys.

I tried booting from:

- Vista DVD, same thing, hangs at Vista loading bar screen,
- Vista Recovery Disc, completes "Windows is loading files", then freezes at Vista loading bar screen
- Acer Recovery partition, hangs at Vista loading bar screen
- Windows XP CD, completes 'Windows is loading files' and then freezes at 'Setup is starting Windows'
- Ubuntu 12.04. DVD; trying "install Ubuntu" and "Try ubuntu without installing" options hangs at blinking _ symbol; option 'Test memory' goes fine and doesn't report any problems; option 'Check disk for defects' hangs at blinking _ symbol.

I then booted from HDD Regenerator v2011 disc, did a hard drive scan and it didn't found bad sectors on it.

After that, I used Hirens Boot Disc which has various tools on it, this is what HDD tools I used:
- DRevitalize v1.2 - 0 bad sectors found (very long scanning, took day and a half)
- Seagate Seatools - long test, no problems found
- Hitachi advanced test - everything seems ok
- Seagate diskwizard tool freezes on "Reading all physical volumes".

I didn't yet try formatting drive and reinstalling OS as I cannot boot from Vista/XP disc. There are some formatting tools on Hirens Boot Disc, so I could check them out and delete everything on it.

So is it possible it's HDD problem even though these tests I ran don't show any bad sectors or report problems? Or could it be something else?

mabye there is something wrong with the MBR. last time that happend to me i had to Reformat and reinstall to make anything work.

When your running the test do you hear any really loud clicking noices.

No loud noises when testing. I will try formatting using some tools from this Hirens Boot CD, I just hope it won't freeze when trying to boot from Vista/XP disc to install OS.
