I keep getting a memory error in BF2. I am using about 2GB on BF2 and assorted processes, and 2 GB task manager says is cached. This leaves me with a grand total of 17 MB of free memory, which is what is causing Vista to display the error. Is there a way to release this cached memory so BF2 doesn't keep crashing?

Do you use Vista 32 or 64? If the case, I believe Vista will use all available free memory for caching and will release it has needed by application. It much better than just leaving it free.

Are you overclocking? If yes, may by your memory is unstable?
May be you have defective RAM and when Windows try to use it, it crashing?

May be you could run a memory test, just to make sure it is fine.

Vista will use memory and cache other memory.. so your "Free" memory should be down to almost nothing. That's a good sign.. meaning it has the cached memory ready to be used faster than just the free memory.

What's the error you're getting in BF2?

Make sure your mobo isn't set to "optimize" your BIOS.. which I've seen in the past, pre-Vista, to cause problems in games.

Are you tabbing in/out of BF2 or something? Or just playing the game straight through?
