I have a laptop running vista that was networked with my desktop running Win 7. When I upgraded from 7 to 10 I lost my network. I can see my vista computer from 10 but I can't see my 10 computer from vista. I was told that the drivers were not available on my laptop. That doesn't make sense. Any ideas?

Normally a driver issue the nic does not work at all. Technically for you to see the vista computer traffic must actually go both directions.

If you can surf the internet that is also a sign there is nothing wrong with the network driver or the low level software setting related to networks.

What you likely have is something setup wrong in the filesharing or maybe the firewall. Unfortunately win10 is so new that it can be something like some box you need to click but there are not a lot of guides yet. It is going to be a matter of digging around the network setting windows related to file sharing.

Most likely the LAN adapter is aging, or the motherboard. You probably had some connectivity issues earlier but didn't notice. I had the reverse problem and added an LAN card.

You've probably tried it but I'd have the Vista system leave the Home Group and rejoin. I thought it too funny that my new Killer Network adapter had trouble seeing the Intel Vista system but remembered that multiple computers seemed too much to network. A new NIC fixed that. Power management can have a greater affect on NICs than other components. I retired a graphics card yesterday and that system may be working better with a TV tuner than it ever did with it an added graphics card.
