Vista to XP

I have lanovo laptop. it keeps downloadind files on its own to the point thad my hard drive is full. I have been advised that this is one of the problems that can occur with Vista, that I should switch my program to Xp to avoid some of these problems.
Do you have any suggestions?

Yeah. Run a malware scanner. Vista won't do that on it's own.
