vista ultimate boots to black screen

Windows. Vista ultimate boots to a black sreen after doing complete PC restore from backup.. running 64 bit.. intel dual core quad processor 2.3 ghz; 2.5 gbts mem; 500 gbt hard drive,.... Windows apears to boot. green strip goes fine then screen flashes blue for a Mila second then black screen. I can see mouse curser that's all... cannot use ctrl+ alt+del booting though safe mode gets same blackscreen... Set BIOS to optimal defaults no help... Recovery disc boots fine but none of tools help.. start up fix says windows booted fine can't find anything wrong. Unpluged all USB devices no help...I can access my files using. Recovery disc by using load drivers in complete PC restore. Can acces bcdedit thru comand prompt also on recovery disc.Bootmanager files look rite. No system restore files found.
