Vista Upgrade Gone Bad

My wife's computer has Vista. I had a disk for the upgrade to Ultimate. She used it but it was the 32 bit version and she has 64 bit. So a New operating system (?) was installed and all the old files went into a folder. How do I restore this?

I am not exactly sure how it could get installed

Then we would like to install the 64 bit version

Hi. Go to windows Explorer. All the files are in a folder named windows old which is on C:\
