Vista wont install on new system

I built a new computer and it has a GA-MA790FX-DS5(AMD Phenom) motherboard,I try to install Vista and the computer crashes with a blue screen saying the bios in my system is not fully ACPI compliant!?

Its one of their newest motherboards saying all over it that its made for Vista..

I asked Gigabyte and they havent responded or even read it it seems its been 2days..

The motherboard is quality made, awsome runs like a champ with winXP, but I bought it for Vista 64bit/DX10 gaming and their BIOS is glitchy..

I updated to thei F2 version BIOS and still no joy..

Check the jumper setting on you HD's and optical drives. You might replace the Sata and/or IDE connectors with new while you are at it.

After 4 days I thought I'd done everything. Reset the cmos again along with changing the jumpers on my plextor px-740 a to cable select from master. Taking the jumpers off completely from my 2 Raptors (all this and more, all at once). It wouldn't boot until I removed a stick of ram (booted) then replaced it and rebooted. Joy!!!!

Also, in BIOS set the memory voltage to Mfg. specs, PC6400 is 2.0-2.1v. Use one DIMM of RAM in slot 1 only to load the OS.

OK ill try that... my memory slots are going to get wore out already had to play musical memory to get the stupid comp to boot up to begin with after the F2 bios update

That's most likely a memory problem.. test it, and try with one stick.

one more thing.. make sur the jumper is not in the clear cmos position..

I took all 6 gigs of ram and tested it and its fine, back when I had a hard time installing WinXP.

Taking all the ram out except 1 2gig stick worked, thanks.

Lets hope this doesnt happen again..15years of building systems and this one is the only one thats given me tons of trouble...starting with hard drives,SATA controller,Virtualization support feature would loop the startup,now to this ACPI problem that ive never seen before..

Usually, upping the voltage in BIOS help to stabilize the thing with multiple RAM stick. Especially when they are not of the same size/brand

Well this sux...Vista wont let me go past 2gigs without restarting itself after poping the BSOD for a second...Gigabyte needs to fix their BIOS, WinXP runs with 8gigs no problem even though it cant use it..

I think there is a bug with Vista to install with more than 2 gigs.. the BIOS should be ok if it works with XP..

I think you can get SP1 for vista, I would try it to see if it helps.

I installed Vista with 8 gig so there is no bug. The memory voltage seem plausible if it's not ACPI.

Seems to be half Bios and half windows Vista.

When I updated the bios to F2 to try and fix the Vista install crashing it messed up my memory settings.

I was using 6gigs 2 x 2gig and 2 x 1gig sticks all the same speed and wasnt having a problem...now the system will crash or fail to boot when I do it like that..

But 4gigs seem stable, I tried 4 gigs and still the Blue screen during Vista start up..

I was thinking to revert back to the F1 bios..

If you make a stink M$ will take back your Vista and 'downgrade' you to XP. Problem solved.

I want Vista to run though, I got Vista for free when I bought winXP MCE 2005, then paid only 14$(shipping) for the 64bit version.

There is a difference between DX10 and DX9 gaming/32 and 64bit also, I can really tell the difference, depends on how you set your Vista up...my Vista is 40% faster than XP MCE gaming.

Anyway if this whole service pack 1 update dont work illl try reverting back to the old bios..

I would go through the Windows Update instead. You may not need all those 878MB.
It will download only required files.

OK, well I decided to put 4gigs in the computer,go into BIOS hit load optimised defaults,saved and the computer started right up with Vista..lol

Mind you I already did the load optimised defaults right after the F2 update because your supposed to,but just after that I went back in BIOS before Vista started up and chose my own settings,something I normally do all the time...turn off all the un-used crap,like printer ports and SATA controllers and such.

this might be solved ill try re-tweaking the bios and see if it does it again..

Yeah I know its the RC version, that was pointed out to me earlier on another forum, Its not really a big deal,windows update will see that and update the system with anything else after its done, sort of like preloading a game you just purchased
