Okay so I have a Visio Smart TV (VIZIO 55 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart TV D55U-D1 UHD TV) and Comcast with 75 gbps. I also have a 802.11ac
Asus RT-AC1200 Wireless router providing AMAZING speeds.

This is the issue. The TV gets no more than 2.50 mbps on a good test when my average network where as computers get anywhere from 50-78 mbps with a speedtest.net test.

I don't have trouble streaming but what I do want is to higher throughput specifically for streaming 4k. Netflix shows (like Daredevil Season 2) are showing in 1080 instead of 4k, and I'm almost positive that it's due to the device not getting the speed that it should to handle video of that quality. Any ideas here? Thanks.

Hm, it's downstairs, and the router is upstairs, but I am not sure that's causing an issue. The router is also dual band and will place the devices on the best frequency automatically. There is no way to hardwire it to the TV though.

I guess I should have asked are there any computers or other devices on WiFi that have the same speed issues in the same location as the tv? Also this tv runs on 2.4 ghz band, its possible that you have a lot of traffic on there and the priority of the tv is low.

Other things to try, go into your router configuration and try to change the wireless channel, also is the TV within about 30 feet of the router?

ah. No we tested and the other computers are getting the same fast speeds. It is definitely within 30 feet of the TV.

This is baffling. I did some research on the issue for you there are others who have had the same problem with the same TV. Two promising possibilities are performing a factory reset on the TV, the other is making sure IPv6 is disabled on your router. Can you try those and see how it works?

Otherwise the general consensus is the network card in these TVs is lame and it can't really handle 4k. The reason for such slow speeds (even if the above works) is that the Wifi in the TV is just bad. Even hard wiring shows improvement but isn't perfect either.

oh wow, well that's... disconcerting... that's kind of the point of having a 4k TV, but if I can't even get the quality =/ Sounds like the only way I'd be able to watch is through getting movies in that quality and there aren't many of them out there.

I don't have any actual network issues with loading netflix but that level of quality is likely just hard to reach. I'll check and see if maybe there is a driver update for the TV wifi.

I have 2 4k tvs in my home (Samsung and LG) and both struggled to maintain the 4k Netflix stream over WiFi (and my house is wired up with 2 with office style wireless access points one within direct line of sight of the Samsung which offers the best connection). I am lucky enough to have network cable run everywhere so I hard wired both TV's and both work excellently now. If its somehow possible that may be your best route. Yes also make sure your TV's software is up to date, just in case they made some sort of fix for it.

I have the same issue with the D55u-D1. I spoke with a technician and the solution is simple. it's a testing issue with the TV. The internet is fine. If you go to the VUDU app and test your connection there, you will see that your connection is optimized for UHD which requires at least a 25 mbps connection. I have a 50mbps connection with my ISP and I'm able to run 4K just fine. A new firmware update with these TVs should be coming out soon to fix these testing problems within the Vizio UI.

Are you saying that the "Test Connection" function in the Vizio UI displays incorrect speeds? That would make sense since I tested my wired connection through the Netflix app and got 50 Mbps like I was expecting. When I test the connection through the Vizio UI, it reports a measly 500 KB/s. Crazy.

So, here's the deal.

I bought a Vizio D50-D1 tv from Target on Cyber Monday.

During set up I could not get the TV to connect to either my WiFi or Wired network. I even built a new 50 ft lan cable to run directly from my ISP's modem/router to my TV and it still would not pick up a DHCP address.

I was eventually able to manually configure a network address and ran some speed tests. I couldn't get much more than 1150kbp/s using the TV's connection speed test.

I even went so far as to have my ISP replace my router (at my cost) but this made no difference. The TV's NIC's are active but will not resolve an IP address using DHCP. I've literally had 100 devices connected to my Wifi over the last few years (I saw this when I checked my router's logs and it had set up some DHCP reservations for every device that had ever connected- --I blew away all of these addresses during troubleshooting to make every device get a new IP -- so I know my WiFi system works.

I called support. They were not helpful at all. Eventually set up for a replacement.

The replacement arrived today. This one *did* pick up DHCP but absolutely would not get a connection (wired or wireless) that will support HD streaming -- the best speed either wired or wireless is about 1mb but typically returns at around 800kpb/s.

While the guy was here setting up the 'new' TV i brought my 2 year old Vizio out of my bedroom. It's also a smart TV.

Side by side , using the same remote, I ran speed test after speed test. My small TV will get 25-35 mbp/s at the same time the new 50 inch TV will only get 600 to 1100 kbp/s.

He took a number of pictures of all the configuration settings for evidence since I refused to accept the new TV and possible run into a warranty issue for Vizio.

We even called V izio support again while the guy was here to have an unbiased 3rd party available as a witness. The Vizio guy pulled the "I have a bachelors degree in network technology so what you're telling me makes no sense."

Of course it doesn't make any sense, it doesn't make sense to me and I've got 20+ years working in telecommunications and IT in general.

As soon as we all acknowledge that Vizio=garbage, we will all become better citizens. I have two pieces of garbage, each hardwired because the wifi was so unreliable. The older model clocks download speeds of 11000+ k/ps, while the newer hovers around 350 using same wired connection. Vizio customer support insists the problem is with my network. Their logic is baffling if not completely asinine, I have given up....I will never buy Vizio again.

I have a similar problem with a M50-C1 from Vizio as well. I'm a tech professional, my network is just fine, TV ended up being hardlined and still failed to get decent download bandwidth. I'm pretty confident it's just the cheapo network card in the TV. For posterity, here is my experience:

1. Connected TV to router via Wifi at first, because it should work fine. Same room, other devices see 100+ Mbps such as my laptop, PS4, phone. TV connected just fine, 100% signal strength. Speed test via the network menu on the TV shows 2.53 Mbps (wtf?). Okay... that's incredibly low.

2. Let's try hardlining. First, let's get a base line. Turn on my PS4 which (obviously) is physically adjacent to the TV. Pull the ethernet, set the PS4 to wifi, test connection speed. 75 Mbps over wifi. Plug ethernet in, reset connection, test speed, 120 Mbps. Great! My network is still cranking super fast speeds. Turn off PS4, plug ethernet into TV, reset connection, verify Wifi is off and the connection is now wired. Test connection ... 2.53 Mbps. Wtf?

I bought this TV to future proof so thankfully I don't really care that the networking hardware is crap (stuff gets used to spy on you anyway). I just wanted to see what a 4k stream looked like. C'est la vie. I'll wait until I buy my PS4 Pro. I'd rather have that running on my network and devices than Yahoo services anyway.
