Vladmir the monk

My house is on Homare-Jima, midway between the moongate and the Bushido
Dojo. There are a lot of Ronin that wander in the plane west of my house.

When I take on a Ronin with my mage, this "Vladmir the monk" comes out and
helps me. He fights the Ronin while I stand back and bomb the Ronin with
spells. This monk must have unlimited hit points because I haven't seen him
heal and he never gets killed. He always leaves all the loot for me.

Could he be a NPC put there to help protect the houses?

I don't know but something similar happened to me. I didn't notice the
name or title but I had run away from a Yamamamamadon sluggo to heal and
just as I was about to go back to the fight some guy appeared, cast G Heal
on me and then Bless, then he hid (I thought). I was a bit annoyed
because as I am trying to raise my healing skill, it's a missed chance for
a gain when someone heals me, except I was already healed already. I
didn't think about it again until your story above.

Did I mention I saw 4-5 mystic llama herders inside the caves in that
mountain NE of the Kitsune woods?

They take awhile to get whittled down, but monks aren't immortal...i've saw one
fight a ronin & a revenant lion yesterday on Homare-Jima, right near the
moongate.

Seeing the monk's health dwindling, and being a responsible citizen and
follower of virtue, i proceeded to thwak the fleeing lion on the head and chop
the ronin into tiny bits, managed to find a nice 78 luck No-Dachi with sc-0 for
my troubles, and the monk blissfully wandered off to get into more trouble,
while i rode north to raid a dojo.

After you kill that little pussy, it is amazing how much loot they can
carry.

Saw the weirdest thing today on Baja. Was fooling around with a second
account character and screen freezes. Few seconds later a toon of a
character, fully dressed and on a gold beetle appears next to my
character. I pull up the name and the tag is gold/invulnerable but the
char disappears off screen before I can get the name.

You know that if you repeatedly click on the monster's health gump that
they will not run away until you hit them again, right? Very handy when
doing paragons. This is an old, old effect.

The best loot/effort new monsters seem to be the bake kitsune, to me. But
I can still rake in more money doing regular demons and dragons or just
plain old black solen.

The new lands are fun though.

Hey, that reminds me - where do you get windchimes? Are they craftable?

I bought windchimes, tried for an hour to hang them. I ended up just sitting
them on the roof. I've seen them hanging, they look the same as mine, but
maybe they are different.

I bought them from a vendor on the road north of the Homare-Jima moodgate.

I made them with my Tinker the second night. They are craftable and
there are two different kinds. Also there are three different types
of laterns that ar craftable as well. I don't know what skill you
need to make the, but I have a 81 or so intinkering and I fail more
often that not. It takes metal and wood to craft them.

Just FYI if your hunting is limited by what you can carry get a bag of
translocation. It can send single items (Like a 10K pile og gold for
instance) streight to the bank for you and eliminating the need to break off
what you are doing. It's a Solen quest in case you didn't know about it.
That's what I use when hunting black Solen Inf. as I rack up quite a pile
quickly.

Having not tried to craft or use them yet, did you try locking them
down and then raising them with the house decorating tool?

That's a good idea, I never used a bag of translocation. Are they the same
as a bag of sending, which I've seen for sale on vendors?

Actually, after I get a "full load", I'm ready for a break anyway. But I'll
pick up a bag of translocation (or sending).

Yes, they're the same.

After I acquire a full load of loot, I usually log out and check my email
and newsgroups. :)

I made some of each kind (and some of the new containers as well). I
locked a couple of the fancy windchimes down next to my suddenly weathered
looking guildstone. One of them seemed a bit out of place but was no
problem to raise up a bit with the decorating tool.

Yep, that's the ticket.

Don't you dare give a vendor 20K, or whatever fool price they are
asking, for a bag of sending. Go do the Ambitious Queen quest
yerself.

Think it was a typo and they meant bag of sending, but anyway...

The bag of sending is an amazingly useful tool for any hunter, just click the
bag, click your gold pile(or whatever you need to send), and keep on going
without taking a break or losing your hunting spot.

Though if you're hunting Shame One, that last bit probably isn't as big a deal
as it used to be...when earth eles carried closer to 400 gold, always had two
gems, and occasionally dropped really nice weapons and armor...

Spent nearly every night in that dungeon before the earths took the loot hit
with AoS...

If you really want to make some money gem hunting, try out Gargoyles in
Ilshenar(sure, there's the paragon chance, now, but a paragon gargoyle is just
as big a puchover as a normal one...just has more hp), they carry a little less
gold than an earth elemental, but have 1-4 gems(usually 4, this was patched
recently due to player complaints about such an easy monster always carrying 4
gems, making them a simple cash farm kill...which they still are...), and they
usually die in two swings of a gargoyle or demon slayer weapon, and the only
real worry is their spell casting, which can be countered with a mildly good
resists suit.

And since they carry level 2 maps, there's the chance their paragon forms will
have a level 3 chest when killed, and you might even get a few minor artifacts.
:}

To check 'em out for yourself, head to the Compassion shrine in Ilshenar, then
south a bit until you come to a mountain pass to an artic area, gargoyles spawn
right in the pass, two at a time and rapidly respawn.

~Cyrus~

*And remember, gems are a helluva lot lighter than gold...i usually have a
handful in my sell bag i just forget about for weeks. hehehe*
