VMware, no sound in win10 guest, running on win10 host

The audio icon in the system tray of guest has the red X.
I am on latest version of VMware Workstation. Guest has latest version of VMware tools installed.
Sound card is set to autodetect, but choosing the driver manually didn't help either.
Is this an unsolvable problem?

I tried editing the config file as it says in that article, but then Vmware complained that it was corrupted. I tried updating drivers from within guest, but they are hidden, and when I show them, they are greyed out, and updating says I already have the best drivers installed.
I think the article is a bit outdated, it seems to have been written before Windows 8 came out. That puts it back a few years.

Fixed. In vmx configuration file, I added a line:
sound.virtualDev = "hdaudio"
