[SOLVED] VMware tools not installing

I am trying to install VMware tools in VMware workstation pro 16 on a Windows 7 VM but the setup finishes and gives and error. "The setup has ended prematurely"

Source for VMware tools/ WMware workstation pro 16?

Software could be buggy or corrupted.

Verify that both are still supported by Windows 7. May no longer be supported and the installation failure results in just a simple default/catch-all error such as you are seeing.

VMware workstation 16 pro is getting downloaded from the official website. VMware tools is from the VMware folder in program files.

It does support windows 7

I have VMWare workstation pro 16 myself on Windows 10.

He has a win 7 VM, that means the VM he is running inside Vmware is windows 7, unless OP miss typed.
