Hi,
it's hard to say, because you are comparing free vs commercial. Both are good.
I'm using vmware and it's pretty good.
Try to google virtualbox vs vmware, read articles, comments and then decide what is best for you.

Did you know you can actually export a virtualbox machine and then import it into VMWare Workstation.

Given that virtualbox is opensource, why don't you just start with that and see how you go. If you find there are features missing or you're not happy with virtualbox, just buy VMWare and you should be able to migrate your image over to to the new platform.
