Voice Chat? How?

Hi All,

I just got URT 2004 and I can't seem to get voice chat to work.

First, a little history: In URT 2003 I set my key bindings so that VBN
provided stride left, back up, and stride right. This give me quick access
to C and the spacebar. I use the right mouse button for forward movement.
When I installed URT 2004, I set the key bindings the same way.

Then, today, while playing on a server, I repeatedly got text messages to
the effect I was tying up the voice chat thing or something to that effect.
I quit the game to look at the manual. It seems the V key is used to call up
a Voice Chat menu, and I think F activates the microphone. I changed my
bindings to ASD rather than VBN. I joined a game and couldn't get voice chat
to work (assuming the server had voice chat enabled). I tried another sever,
no luck. I know my hardware is set up correctly because it works perfectly
in PalTalk.

So could someone tell me step by step how to get this to work? I'm new to
this, so please don't use acronyms since I may have no idea what the acronym
means. Pretend I'm a dummy (which won't be far off :*] ).

Thanks in advance!!

Just a bit of nitpicking: that would be "strafe", not "stride".

A key can only hold one function, so once you set those keys, they
"forgot" their old function.

By default, yes.

Which is because you erased the original commands. Just go to the
"customize input" screen (or whatever it is called) and set up your keys
correctly.

Never assume - check next time.

> So could someone tell me step by step how to get this to work?

Nope. Just set up your key bindings just like you did before, but pay
attention to what you're doing next time.

Thanks for the reply, MeltDown. After posting the above questions, I went
back into 2004 and voice chat now works perfectly. The only reason I can
figure I got a complaint about my V key bound to "strafe" left, was that V
did this on my client and server (I did strafe left), but the server was
also seeing the V key as the voice chat menu, and since I strafe a lot, this
may have prevented others from using the voice chat menu. If I am correct,
then apparently the same key can be bound to two (or more functions). Of
course, I could be wrong.

I've seen this a lot on the demo. You'll see people pop up in the chat
window for just a second now and then and pretty soon you see what
they've double-bound. I've noticed a few botters do this inadvertently
when they bind the bot to an off/on key that is in the voice chat
package.

if your using the right mouse button for forward movement how are you
alt-firing for each weapon?

if you dont use alt fire your missing out on half the firing capabilities of
every weapon and even all of the vehicles weapons or movements.

[Zagan]
No need to apologize. I was asking for help and you contributed just that. I
don't consider this off topic nor matter what the header says.

I have a similar setup where i use the right mouse button to 'run', i use
the mouse wheel's click capability as alt-fire.
BTW, my left mouse button is 'jump' 😉
