VOIP to mess with scammers?

Recently had a car accident and now have a ton of time on my hands since I am unable to walk (6 months to a year)

Need and Purpose:

I want quite badly to find a VOIP application to use with one of my PC's to call back those horrific oversea scammers (IRS, FBI and other money scams..). Anyone have a clue where I should start?

I already have 2 VPN's with two different companies and a ton of Computers and hardware, including a couple of gently used RT68U ASUS routers. I am also connected via dedicated broadband at 150 mb/s.

I would like approximately 50 to 75 numbers or more in order to call their toll free numbers back (non-spoofed numbers) and waste 'their time' whilst I recover. I will also record these sessions so quality of audio needs to be adequate (blue yeti microphone on my end).
I would of course like to do this as anonymously as possible (for obvious reasons).

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,

Thank-You for your concern, much appreciated...
However, I live in a place where my safety is not a concern and any threat would need to be 'severe' (I quite literally live in a small fortress) and thus, I am not worried by some overseas hacks. But again, I appreciate your concern.

Ofcourse, I'm not the one to say at all, as I'm quite poor at spending time efficiently myself and this is not meant in a negative tone at all. But why not spend the time by learning things? Whatever is in your interest? You could learn a lot from anything within 6 months time. Why no education over this sort of thing?

You into music, do you play any instruments?

Also fitness/working-out is definitely possible to some extent and might help you recover faster.

LOL... This is not going to be a 'full-time' gig. I am already semi-retired and love to paint and draw (a couple of my passions). Unfortunately I would be unable to finger an instrument of any kind, but do VERY MUCH enjoy music (all kinds). I also like to sculpt and weld (welded sculptures... they're terrible!). Every skill I have is almost exclusively self-taught and that is mostly due to my other passion which is research and reading. I will be 'very busy' indeed...

I also have the advantage of living with a close relative that is far better than 'well-off' and he has made arrangements so that I have ALL the necessary needs, including a rehabilitation room and pool (combined, there are more sq. ft than the house I currently lease to a family) and a view that is quite simply breathtaking. Having stated the above, the driver who hit me was over the limit and had a very good insurance company with a somewhat incompetent lawyer, thus my retirement is pretty much fully secured.

So to be clear, I am fully invested in enjoying my life and during my long recovery, but I also have a 'bone to pick' with the individuals for reasons of my own (I worked in limited capacity with elderly persons who were scammed 'horribly'..).

Perhaps my situation is a bit clearer now?

Cheers,

Again, it is NOT the spoofed numbers that I am interested in... There are many TOLL-FREE and private numbers that are available.

Right.
Which do NOT lead back to the 'call center'.

Call it, and you get a housewife in Baltimore.

But for a VOIP device? Buy a MagicJack or an Ooma. Get a random phone number...call them.
Or a GooglePhone num.

LOL,.. I'm not sure why you think all these numbers are 'spoofed'. The reason they leave them on a persons answering machine is for you to call them back (especially in the case of the FBI, CRA, scams..), besides, If this were the case, NONE of the phone #'s would actually work when you phoned them back! That's the beautiful thing about calling back their #'s is that I end up wasting their time so that they can't 'prey' on the ones who are liable to fall for the scams (i.e the elderly) and also the reason why I need so many of my own VOIP numbers as they will have to block each and every one of them.

Thanks for the advice regarding the devices, but it appears that they may not be the best devices based on their hardware / software / subscription limitations regarding multiple phone numbers (at least from what I've read thus far..).

Cheers,

I'm not saying "all of them" are spoofed.
But when the caller ID shows a 410 area code (credit card scam), and the accent/voice on the other end (and all in the background) is straight from Mumbai, and when she realizes I am from the US (and starts swearing at me for being 'a stupid American')...I'm pretty sure the call did not originate in Baltimore.

I too often play 'keep them on the line'. But to discover and call them back?
Whatever floats your boat.

Most phone #'s from caller ID's cannot be connected as you say, but again, those are not the ones that I am interested in calling back for that 'exact' reason. However, since you wondered... Here you go! This is the kind of thing that 'floats my boat' 😛
