voltage for power adapter

I need to replace the power adapter on my old Sony camcorder. It says "7.2v" on the back of the camera, but all the adapters I can find say "output 8.4v." Can I use one of these adapters? Thanks!

Yes it will be OK. There will be a slight voltage drop on the output of the adapter when it is under load. That is why they are rated slightly higher than what is actually required.

I just checked the output of my Sony camcorder AC adapter - it is a Sony brand and the output is DC 8.4V - 1.5A
