The volume label on my hard drive is corrupted and fdisk cannot be run because I cannot enter the name of the volume label . Format too will not run ! Is there a way of bypassing the < enter volume label > option to run fdisk and format ?

go to the manufacturer's site, whoever it is. they will have a utility that will wipe the drive clean, like it came from the factory. if it's ibm look for a file called DFT(drive fitness test), if it's maxtor look for a file called maxdiag or powermax (not sure what they are naming it nowadays, it used to be maxdiag). seagate or WD i have no clue what their utility names are. gluck
