Vpn bandwidth loss

Ii have Internet through comcast blast. Advertised bandwidth is 250mbps which speedtest.net confirms. Testmy.net though tells me I get around 50 mbps download speed. After installing purevpn through my router, both test sites tell me I'm down to 11-12 mbps. Does this sound like too much bandwidth loss for vpn? I use openvpn protocol but using pptp only gets a little better speed. Are there settings I can fool with on the router to get better performance? Thanks for any help.

Not unusual. VPN processing is CPU intensive. Unless you have a router that is specifically designed for VPN acceleration, you get a lot of throughput loss.

Yeah you go for the speed test. If it's too low then it's time to change your VPN service.
