I've set up a small server do host a VPN for me and my friends although lately they have been going over my 300GB internet cap.
i was wanting a way to monitor the VPN per user.

I'm running a standard windows server 2008 PPTP VPN and I'm looking for something which can monitor the WAN Miniports ideally.
I've done some research although i seem to be looking in the wrong place.
As far as i have found out you cant monitor the WAN Miniports in windows.
Could someone please point me in the right direction :)

http://www.nirsoft.net go here and look through there list of free monitoring tools. they should have what you need either as 1 ap or a couple that will work alongside each other to give the info you want.
me i just use there currports tool to monitor all the connections but it doesnt tell you how much each use.

setting up a vpn on a home server isnt a good idea, if your pal downloads an illegal movie it will show up as going to your ip so you could end up with a warning from your isp for piracy even though you didnt download anything...
also 300 gig a month is roughly 10 gig a day which means some1 is either streaming movies or copying them (typically some 1 just doing emails and a bit web browsing will use about 5-10 gig a month...

Thank you HEXiT for your reply
I tried out currports and in the process learned that the bulk of the PPTP data is sent using the GRE protocol which cannot be monitored by currports. Thank you anyway, Thank you also for pointing out the risks 😉 My friends and I are well aware of the risks. Most of my friends claim that it is 1080pHD YouTube so I'm not that worried about it being illegal content

there are plenty of other monitoring softwares on that site mate and most of it is useful so take your time and look through what each does. you should find something that works and works for free.

thats the thing mate what people say and what people do when they think your not watching are often different. so dont take any1s word for what there downloading...

youtube addis will show up as connections in the unknown list near the bottom. every site there connected to should also be visible although you will likely have to check each ip to see where it leads.
