I need to get a VPN with a static IP so I can connect to a white listed server using BOTH a windows program(SCE SDK Manager) and a web browser.

I'm looking at all these VPN providers but it looks like they require you to access things though some proprietary software, will that work for me???

Provider suggestions???

Thanks!!!

Many of the VPN service support multiple variations of VPN. Most support pptp and ipsec but many more now support SSL-VPN. In almost all cases you must load a vpn client. Most are just using a variation of the free openvpn client. There are a vpn that can dynamically load a activex based client but I have not see a public service offering it. This is mostly used by enterprise installs for their remote access. It tends to be a expensive license from juniper or cisco so its hard to say if there are VPN services using it. If you are concerned about their software you likely can load a generic copy of openvpn.

Which provider you use is mostly based on how close you are to their hosting center. You need to load their free trials if they have them and look at your performance. For VPN service it tends to be true you get what you pay for. The really low price ones tend to not have as solid a network and many have bandwidth caps.

Hey thanks for the response.

Forgive me but most of your post went right past me, lol. I don't know much of anything about this stuff.

I guess the main question is does a VPN Static IP service fit my needs?....

I need to use this program, that connects to a server, which has to have my IP address white listed. Bandwidth and limits aren't really a concern as it's just for updating an SDK and for accessing support forums.

Right now I'm spending around $30 per month on a separate ISP to do this(I can't get a static from Comcast without doubling my bill).

So If it will work for me I can pay $10-$20 a month for a vpn service and it would be much more convenient over all.

I could also really use some specific suggestions for a provider. Or at lest what to look for. I notice most of them have servers in Denver(where I live) and offer static IP service but I've found about 30 different ones and am unsure on everything from, "will it work?" to "is this legit?", lol.

If you will not generate enormous amount of traffic - become your own VPN provider:
- get cheap ($10/mo) Virtual Private server. You will get static IP address with that
- put VPN server software on that server
- connect from your client to your VPN server
- you are getting out into the wild with your own IP address

The question, however, is why you need VPN in the first place.

I don't know that I need a VPN specifically. I need a white listed static IP to be able to use a program and to access company websites. And for the sake of this post assume I can't get one from my ISP(explained above).

Also, If it costs me about the same, or even $20 a month, its worth it for me to not have to bother with running my own stuff.
