VPU temperatures - how to know

How does one go about determining the temperature of the VPU ? I would think this would be useful information to determine oc'ing limits.

I have a radeon 8500le... how do I check the vpu's temperature ?

you can't, unless you buy a thermal sensor. ATI cards doesn't have built in thermal monitor I think the new 9800XT does though.
