VR and general gaming build (all-black)

A little background: I used to be an avid gamer as a teenager and well in to my twenties. I am 32 now and decided to go back to school to study applied informatics. What happened is all my classmates got me excited about gaming again :D

I set up this build, with the primary goal to play all curent games on high settings and new games at decent settings for some years to come. It was only after I assembled this I got my first experience with VR (HTC vive) and I badly want to get a rift or vive now. But I think this build doesn't need to be chanced to run VR? The screen selected is the screen I allready own and Is absolutely not a screen for gaming (75Hz and 5 ms). Most probably will change that in near future.
And finally I have kind of an all-black theme going on, but I am willing to chance that if it could improve the build.

Other key questions I have:
- are there any parts that are over the top? I am pretty convinced about the i7-9700k and RTX 2080 combo. But I don't know if I should go with a cheaper motherboard
- are there any bottlenecks
- Is the cooler for the CPU sufficient?
- Which RTX 2080 should I buy? I selected the MSI gaming trio because I was concerned about cooling. Is there any reason to not buy this one (cheapest I can get here in Belgium)

Looking forward to your advice! Ordering next week, as my exams are ending in two weeks ;)

VR is mostly GPU heavy, CPU does not matter too much.

Solution
The current VR standard is 90hz with customisable resolutions. (apparently they feel 90hz is smooth enough)

So with that in mind, a ryzen 2700x would also work well for you. Go all out on the gpu, get the 2080ti if you can cuz with higher resolution, you need exponentially increasing gpu power.

Do you really need a 1tb ssd? Won't a 500 gb suffice? But that's your call...

If you are really fixed on the 9700k, I would suggest a bit higher end board like the gigabyte aorus master, asrock extreme 4 or phantom gaming 6 or Asus Strix e z390.

Other parts looks solid. I would suggest a 34" curved ultrawide 3440x1440 g sync if you really want that immersion.

Thank you for the advice. The Ryzen 2700x would indeed be a good alternative, and saves me about a €100 if I look at local prices. Unfortunately, it doesn't open up enough budget to go for a 2080ti. For example the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti DUKE OC is €1350, that's €450 more than the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO I have selected.

I'm going with a 1tb SSD, because I won't be getting an additional HDD.

I really don't know what to do regarding the motherboard, I selected the entry price model for a Z390 chipset. What are the advantages of the boards you are suggesting compared to the MSI Z390-A PRO?

By the way the alternative RTX 2080 I was suggesting in my opening post, but didn't link, was this one: https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N2080WF3OC-8GC#kf
Saves me about €150 compared to the MSI Gaming Trio, but I'm concerned about the quality.

Thank you, seems like a solid alternative. I still feel concerned about bottlenecking with the CPU, but I probably shouldn't. Keep in mind that I do want to play other games than VR and I did read that the tracking for room scale could be quite CPU intensive?

That power supply looks really interesting pricewise, but is still €120 here. Am I overdoing it with the PSU i have selected?

The windforce 2080 gpu is also a good model based on the reference design. No problems there.

But that's still amounts to 250 € in total savings. Dunno if you could stretch it by another 200...

Vapour is giving you good advice on minimizing the cost further, let's see where that leads us.

But although, I would stick with corsair rmx series for such a high end build... Wouldn't go for txm/cxm

Evga evga G2/g3 --> € 130 for the 650 G2, it's in low supply here
Corsair TXM/CX/CXM --> CX 650M is €77,90, TX 650M is €79,90
Seasonic focus plus --> €99,90

Seasonic in particular looks really good price/quality wise. I might switch, but I'll check some reviews to see if it's not too loud. Forgot to mention that's important too, since my desk is next to our bedroom.

I will pick between TXM and focus. Both are good choices.
