Hi, just purchased a Viewsonic vx2233wm. Out of the box I was far from impressed. The colors were dull, there was significant overbleed across the top 1/8" of the screen. No big deal, a few mins of playing around with CCC and presto, the colors are bright. The overbleed, well that's to be expected on sub $200 LCD's.

However, after viewing a few videos on this monitor I noticed that every single dark area of the screen was getting horribly pixelated. I tried different resolutions from 1900x1080 down to 800x600 and it was always the same. I thought perhaps my 4850 drivers were being flakey so I plugged in my 30" Proscan to see if I could duplicate it on that. Nada, it ran like a champ.

Any suggestions on if this typical, or a solution as to get rid of it? I hate to RMA it. For 152 bucks there's no way I'm going to find another 22" that natively supports 1080p. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Typical issue with cheap TN panels, although yours sounds to be pretty bad.

I tested Batman - The Dark Knight on my Asus VK246H monitor (TN panel) and I did notice some issue in a few dark scenes, but nothing like what you are describing.

The worst would be when the Joker blew up the hospital; the black cloud of smoke was totally pixelated with large square boxes. Good thing that monitor will only have limited usage.

That sounds more like a DVD playing back software issue than the monitor. I have the same movie @ 1080P. There is no pixelated square boxes when joker blew up the hospital. I have the Asus VH226. I use VLC player with the latest codecs.

Not all TN panels are created equal anyway. I have Viewsonic VX1962WM TN panel that look much better than the Asus VH226. Then again the Viewsonic X series are a bit more expensive than the Asus. The asus has poor color accuracy other wise it's good for typical home use. It's 1 of the cheapest monitors available far as sale price goes. Very value oriented.

This has the higher pixel pitch compared to the other monitors of it's size and resolution. I do not know what that is. It should be .244mm but the specs say .300mm.. Weird. That might have something to do with it or else your monitor might be messed up.
