W cannot an older maxtor one touch iii work on a newer laptop

Hello,
I am currently using a new DV6 HP with Intel I5. I am trying to connect an old Maxtor One touh III to the laptop. Installed all the software and the drivers, but cannot see anything happening. Is there any way to get my data from One Touch III?

Correct Vista driver installed ? Error reported in device manager ?
Does drive appear in disk management with drive letter assigned ?
