yes...
Only keep stuff ya use on your desktop
Don't keep big stuff in "My" folders. - My Documents, My Pictures, etc.
Move your malbox...
Clean up cookies...

In General, look at the Documents and Settings Folder, and then your Userid folder. There's lotsa stuff there like above and much more...
All your UserID folder stuff(local settings, Application Data, Cookies, MY Folder contents, etc... is stored in hives at shutdown, and it takes time! (both at startup and shutdown).

Move this stuff to some other place outa the Documents and settings folder!
Its also much safer, cause this folder is one of the more easily lost floders on any profile loss or corruption...

You'll be amazed how much faster shutdown becomes!

heya hardwareboss:

I have noticed that different machines react to the shutdown procedure differently, my personal gaming machine for example shuts down extremely fast, probably 5 seconds to black, however my girlfriends computer hangs on shutdown, which it didnt do on a fresh install, in otherwords there are programs and services she uses that i dont use that cause delays in shutdown, the more crap you have running when you shutdown the longer it takes, also some programs corrupt your OS by intergrating themselves into the operating system and disrupt the shutdown process, although they dont nessecarilly cause serious performance problems, these invasive programs are probably not microsoft certified and i wouldnt recommend running them at all, hunt them down and eliminate them with extreme prejudice they are the scurge of the universe...hehe

This is really funny, usually pipel get irritated on bootup not shutdown. Just click Ok to shutdown and walk away.

But anyway, the fastest way to shut it down is to press the power button. That would do the trik without any "modifications".

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...
