W7: Reinstall computer - How to backup all windows updates?

Dear community,

I was wondering if there was a way to backup all windows updates I've done. I really don't want to reinstall my windows 7 and having to download 1000gb of updates. Anybody know anything for this? Or is there no way?

There is no easy way to do it, however if you have one of the original DVD's or are restoring from an older restoration partition (prior to Service Pack 1) download and run the SP1 update manually, since that includes all previous updates to it's release. It will take a good chunk of them out.

I guess I need to burn the ISO file on a dvd? What do I do with the other files msi files?

If you have SP1 downloaded as an ISO, use a CD/DVD emulator to mount and open the file instead of burning. There are a multitude of apps out there that will work. The one I use is WinCDEMU from [sysprogs.org]... Its free and downloadable directly from their site.

all updates are stored in c:/windows/softwaredistribution/download

copy this folder than run each update.exe file to reinstall the updates you downloaded

bt i cant find any of .exe file in that destination folder u told....

I used the Windows 7 included tool "Easy Data Transfer" if I am installing on another drive., or create a backup image right after first install and all updates are complete.

It is a dookie load of updates when clean installing.
