W7 won't boot

OK, I have this Asus laptop that came with no hhd from a auction. I installed a hard drive and it booted up first time, so I updated the bios and all drivers but I noticed that every now and then it will not boot it stays at a black screen and reads that I need to install boot media and then press a key to reboot. I made sure that bios was configured right but still would do this about 25% of the time I would start computer. This morning it will not boot past this screen, I went in to and made sure that boot order was ok and the HHD doesn't show up in Bios now. The hard drive works cause I checked it in another machine. I put in the Windows 7 disk and ran the check boot fix and it says there's an aeir and it cant be run. I try to install a fresh copy of Windows and it says it cant. Any ideas would be great ,THANKS!!

Sounds like the laptop's SATA port for the hard drive is faulty. Would also makes sense why you found it at auction without a hard drive. If it's under warranty, ship it to the manufacturer for repair. Otherwise, see if you can swap the hard drive with the optical drive and have it boot from there.
