W8.1: hard drive failure error

Hi

I have a Dell inspiron 3647. When I turn on the computer, I get the error message, "hard disk drive failure. Strike the f1 key to continue. F2 to run the setup utility."

Striking f1 throws the computer into a loop back to this error message. However, striking f2 results in the computer booting up normally. I went into my bios, and everything seems correct, including the time and date. I even reset my cmos to default.

What's the issue here and how do I get rid of the error message? I assume the hard drive isn't broken if everything works fine once I hit f2.

As your system boots just fine, my suggestion would be to back up the data stored on it.

After that, you can just check its health status out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Observe the SMART report and look for pending/reallocated and uncorrectable sectors.

Try running the free version of HDTune on your boot drive and see what its health is
