From memory the original mobility i5/i7 chips were dual core on windows based laptops. Guess apple picked it for power saving haha

In the mobile processors Intel® Core™ i5's are all dual core processors and about half the Intel Core i7 processors are dual cores also. Speed is the biggest factor as to what family the processor belongs to but if there is a "Q" in the model # it is a quad core.

all of the original i5's were, but like the other series, the i7's with a Q are quad cores

ie I have an i7-720qm, its has a q, so quad core

Hahaha $1,500 for a 2.8Ghz dual core and 4 GB of 1333, oh and intel 3000HD ?? Only in the i-life lol.
If you are actually looking for a laptop, check the HP Envy 15 3040 NR

i7 2670QM QUAD CORE CPU (2x The Mac)
8 GB DDR3 (2X The Mac)
7690M Graphics (5X Intel 3000-HD, at least)
Better Battery Life (1hr more than the Mac)
Larger 15.6" Screen (Mac only has 13")
Better Audio "Beats" (sounds cheesy but they are actually pretty legit)
Looks almost EXACTLY like a Macbook Pro
Costs $200.00 less for so much more
