so i just bought my cpu, and i just need my gpu to finish the build so my question is, should i leave the cpu in the box and wait til i get the gpu or will the cpu be more safe in the motherboard socket
What cpu? Most newer intel cpu's excluding xeons will work without a gpu. So yeah you can continue your build and get the computer up and running before you even get your gpu if you want. It wont be very good for games until you get that gpu obviously, but it will work.

really thats awsome its an i5 6600k
Yeah that will work without a dedicated gpu. The i5 6600k has a little dedicated gpu right on the chip. Its commonly called an iGPU or integrated graphics. You have intel HD Graphics 530 on the 6600k, that will handle a lot of older games and games that aren't very graphically demanding.
