so i saw this gaming rig on walmart’s website. here’s the link:

i wanted to know,
is this a good deal? also, there was some speculation about walmart PSU’s and how they are very cheap and won’t even last a year. is it true? also, i have a rig at home and i wanted an upgrade but there’s some things i have in my old that are better than the ones in the walmart one. for example the memory. can i swap out my memory for the memory walmart put in? because mine is better. also, can i swap my PSU in for walmart’s PSU

Hard to know since WalMart carries various brands of desktop PCs. That said, I have seen lower speced StarTech Gaming PCs on Amazon too, and the PSU description says "SkyTech PC power supplies have a 5 year warranty...500 Watts High Performance 80 Plus Certified Power Supply".

That's in no way proof of being good build quality and reliable though. That said, I have found most side shots of StarTech ArchAngel PCs show a ThermalTake Smart Series PSU. They're certainly not top tier, but not bad for a budget unit.

I always advise watching a couple good Assembly and OS/Driver videos and building your own.

The reason being, prebuilt PCs use OEM parts that lack the warranty retail box parts have, they're assembled in a rush (especially on the holidays), and the cases are often too cramped to facilitate upgrades well, and often have cheap switches that can fail.

Those StarTech Archangel cases don't look very wide or deep. Look at Amazon's side view of their 1050 Ti model. Note that it has a mini size GPU, and there's no HDD in front of the GPU because otherwise a full size GPU wouldn't fit.

I learned after buying a cordless phone from WalMart over the counter years ago to never buy any electronics from them. When I got home I found out it was missing the battery. I called before bringing it back in to verify they could exchange it for another. I assumed of course it would be exchanged at the returns counter given the condition of the first one and not wanting to have to rifle through phones on the shelf to find which ones hadn't been targeted by thieves. Nope, they just looked at me coldly at the returns counter, not caring if I looked like one of the many thieves they let rob them just trying to find a damn box with a battery in it. Many of them had no batteries mind you.

NEVER buy electronics from WalMart.
