So I'm actually still running windows 7 because I always preferred it over windows 8. However, Microsoft stopped supporting windows 7 with security patches and i believe windows 10 is superior. Lets face it, you gotta move on eventually.

I'm trying to upgrade for free but it has been over a month or two since I've been waiting for it to install. It tells me that it will notify me when it's ready to install because they don't want to overload the servers with windows 10 updates. But I've been waiting and waiting and it doesn't seem like it will ever notify me.

I wanna update because i feel like my computer will run better with newer software.

Solution

You can try the online Upgrade. There are probably a few million other people who have waited until the last minute.
DVD or USB is more reliable, though.

are you sure? or maybe they will stop soon. Somebody who works with software told me they are not supporting windows 7 anymore.

software shouldn't mess with files.. Did anyone have issues updating to windows 10 in regards to their files and whatnot?

You could rely on "Somebody who works with software". Or you can read what Microsoft says:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

Using Win 7 is fine for several more years.

Now...do you want to Upgrade to Win 10?
If so, use the MediaCreation tool, create your own USB or DVD.
Install with that.

You've only got a couple of days left.

is it necessary to use the USB or DVD? or can I just download it. And yeah I had almost forgotten about the due date.

so many people hating on new windows though and I'm not sure. Windows 10 runs better

so my windows crashed trying to update. It said windows stop working and then when I tried restarting it wouldn't open up. Just black screen but i could move the mouse cursor.

was thinking about doing a factory reset but windows said I needed the original disc which I had lost and dont own anymore. So I did a system restore.

Which worked and opened up my pc.

now im going to update all my drivers before I do a windows 10 upgrade. wow that was lame.

windows 10 update went sucessful. Me thinking about doing a factory reset to make my compute run better smoother Thanks everyone. That was close. Wouldn't want to pay 100 for windows 10.
