wanna build my own server

hello,

i have a few questions about running your own server.

im planning to run a private RuneScape server on my own.
but what components except storage and CPU are important?
there will be roughly 1000 ish people online at all times.

I don't know much about the game, but if it's anything as intense as Minecraft per person you're going to need a server farm.

1. What does RuneScape say for a server that will serve that many users?
2. "there will be roughly 1000 ish people online at all times." - How is your bandwidth? Better be pretty high.

personally i'd rent one, It'd cost a fraction of hardware. Is this for bots?

no its to run an actual private server so i can earn some extra money.

And can't you rent them?

to build a server might cost you $1000, it might only cost you $50/month to rent one, therefore the build takes 20months to payback over and above the rental costs, never mind the electrics, the maintenance (as it'll be running hard), the comms etc.

u cant rent a RuneScape server, i dont care that it will cost 2000 euro for the server. i just want it on my own. my friend is very familiar with Java so maintenance isnt really gonna be a problem. and i can get the hardware for a cheap price

Are you running this at home? What sort of bandwidth do you have available?

my Bandwidth is 180mbps normally its even around 200mbps.

And your actual upload bandwidth? Which is what your 1,000 users are going to use.
