Want a good motherboar to overclock my q6600 processor

hi all,

i have intel q6600 processor, and XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB gcard and i dont like my intel DG33FB motherboard, i am a graphic designer and work in maya i need more power for rendering so i need a good motherboard which can overclock good to run my q6600 at 3.4 on air cooling( ASUS Silent Knight).
so now i want a new motherboard which can overclock and a good ram to go with it, plz help me.

As a former computer animation student myself (having used Maya), I recommend you do not overclock your processor. Even if you find a stable configuration, OCing a CPU makes it less reliable overall, which could to wasted time if your entire rendering pipeline needs to be redone thanks to a hung PC.

In any case, your quad-core PC should already provide enough power for rendering. What is your average seconds per frame render?

the OP's quote of 3.4 is better but would depend on the revision etc - the G0 rev. with that cooler from ASUS should be fine if you got a good batch cpu etc keeping the vcore down under 1.45v etc
Right. You should be able to run at 3.0 GHz. with little or no CPU voltage increase. And you should be able to reach 3.3 - 3.4 GHz. Anything higher depends on a lot of factors.

You may have won the "CPU lottery" and gotten a chip with a below average VID. Motherboard choice is pretty simple - a Gigabyte or Asus P45 board (I prefer Gigabyte). Your choice of HSF and case matter. Even your experience and the amount of instability you are willing to tolerate matters.

Because you are building a work machine, I wouldn't try for an extreme overclock.

I run my G0 Q6600 at 3.6 GHz. on a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P with a TRUE/S-Flex SF21-F in an Antec 900 case. My cores are running at 1.42 volts, 24 hour Prime95 stable. Load temps are 61 C. to 65 C. Motherboard thermal alarm is set at 70 C. I will POST and boot at 3.8 GHz (1.50 volts), but it's not stable.

But I have been doing this a while. :)
