Want my machine to have 64-bit OS but it's a 32-bit

Hi Folks, I want to install a program that needs a 64-bit OD, but my Dell Optiplex 755 says that it has a 32-bit OS with a 64-bit processor. Can anyone help me? OR should I just buy a new (or used) machine that already has it?

While I'm sure you could install a 64-bit OS on that machine, it is heavily outdated. You could gain a great amount of performance capability from a new system.

What are you using this system for?

Only two gigs of system memory. OUCH. Yeah you COULD re-install Windows 64 bit but man that system is VERY old and outdated at this point. You would be doing yourself a huge favor by buying a replacement new or used.

I want to run Vectorworks 3d modeling software. I do want a new (or used) system, but not sure what to get and where to get it. I could go to Best Buy, but I don't want to spend more than $500. I want to use the solid state drives I already have, I think I can reuse them. I also want a dedicated graphics card.

Depends on what all you can re-use from your current system, i.e. PSU, Case, etc.

This build of core components is right at $500 including Windows 10 Home 64-Bit. Note it's missing a power supply, disk drives, and case.

You could probably get by with an i3 or even Pentium G4560 (or other hyper-threaded Kaby Lake Pentium), which could knock off $100 on your CPU purchase.

**Better yet, just find a complete tower with an i5-2400/2500 on Ebay. You could probably even find one with a 64-bit Windows OS. They're cheap, like $100-$150. You'll just want one with a micro-ATX or mid-tower that can fit a dual-slot GPU.
