Want to add 2nd video card to support 3rd monitor

Hi,

I have an Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard, and right now I have a GTX 260 hooked up to my LCD TV VGA, and to a couple of monitors DVI. I can only use 2 of them at once.

I only play old games, and when doing so, use one monitor, I will upgrade the GPU next year.

I want to add a GT 610 or something similar so I can use all 3 monitors at once when web browsing and doing similar things. I have a 600 watt power supply. My motherboard has two PCIe x16, and 2 old version PCI slots. Is the second PCIe x16 slot only for crossfire, or can I add a second video card to this? Or do I need to add a video card to the old type PCI slot?

You will want to get another gtx 260 (if possible). What brand and model is your power supply?

your mobo does not support SLI, so you can't add another nVIDIA card in it. It only supports Quad AMD GPU Crossfire. Either upgrade your GPU or continue as it is.

I don't want SLI/Crossfire, I want to add a card to support a 3rd monitor. When I game I only need 1 GPU for that. I need the 2nd weak GPU just for the 3rd monitor when web browsing. Thanks.

Well, in that case you can add another GTX 260. this mobo has PCIe 2.0 x16 slots. you should not face any problem in installing two cards. Add second card to the second top most PCIe slot. Seems like you know better at what you are upto.

You don't need another 260 a cheap card like a 8400gs would work fine.

8400GS is a good option so is GT 610. Whichever is cheaper go with it.
