Want to add a second 7950.

Hey all. I recently purchased a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202007.
Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 with flex.( Although I have no need of flex I play on only one monitor).

This card runs most of my games on max settings and FXAA and stays at around 60fps. I do however have to turn down the shadows in most of the games. Also in Tomb Raider for example, I had to turn off Tressfx (that shampoo for laras hair) and I would also have to turn down the level of detail from max to normal but only when I was outside looking at a large, far away picture. Also FarCry 3 doesn't run so well on the 7950 or 7970 (surprising considering the 7990 gets the most FPS in that game).

For the most part I'm very happy with the card so far and I can run most games on Ultra and get great FPS. For 300 bucks it's a great buy no doubt about it but I was under the impression that with a card like this I wouldn't have to make any compromises. But I guess you can't really get that for 300 bucks when it comes to PC gaming :)

So I want to add a second 7950. I was hoping I could get some advice on this. I know there are issues with crossfire and microsttuter and all that. But I read that SLI gets microsttuter as well.
Also I've seen some people on here with dual 7950s that are very happy with them.

Are two 7950s really as powerful or even more powerful than a gtx 780?
And if so what brand/model of 7950 would you suggest to go with mine?

That as of right now Crossfire has a billion problems and isn't worth bothering with until AMD releases a fix in the coming months, which by then, the next series of cards will be out. If I were you I'd hang on to that 7950 and sell it when October rolls around for the 9000 series.

why not grab a 7970 for a hair more you can find some for $320 and then xfire with your 7950?

my 7970 does the same thing while in metro last light, everything maxed out besides tessilation since that drops it to like 30 fps. with it set to normal tessilation its goes to about 45-60 but ti stays at 45 when looking at fog out in the distance, but if im looking at other stuff its like 75+ fps really annoying

If the 7970 will give me extra performance I may get it. There was a sapphire 7970 dual-X on newegg for 330 bucks + 20 bucks rebate. Practically the same card as mine just no flex and of course its a 7970 instead of a 7950. Some people say that the 7970 will lower itself to 7950 level if paired with a 7950. Others say that it will stay a 7970 and give you more performance than 2 7950s. At any rate I don't think that the 7970 is much faster than a 7950 but if the price is similar and it will actually stay at 7970 speed I may get it.

I'm just not sure about Crossfire and all that. I know there are people that have it and are very happy with it and also there is a new driver coming out july 31st that targets the crossfire issues.

About Metro Last light. I can either run it on normal + 2x SSAA or very high and SSAA off and get similar performance. honestly, that game has some amazing graphics and it does favor Nvidia so I think the card did a pretty good job of handling it but I would like to be able to play on Very high with atleast 2X SSAA or even 4xSSAA but I've seen people complaining about max settings + 4xSSAA with SLI 770s. Saying they could not get a constant 60fps. I think it's the game I mean even people with 690s see fps drops in LL.

I'm just looking for the easiest and cheapest way to get my rig capable of handling all games with maxed settings and atleast 2xSSAA or 2xMSAA and a constant 60fps.

The vapor x has supposibly better chokes and a vrm power design as well as a different heatsink and a binned processor. Im 150mhz over boost and no voltage change was needed and it runs cool. These cards were made to overclock i guess but max voltage is 1.3

I've seen a few people that have the crossfire 7950s and have no problems with it but I also see a lot of negative comments about it. I think I'll wait and see about that driver update on the 31st and what that does for crossfire. Thanks for the info :)
