Want to clone win xp 64 from ide to raid 0

I read that this is possible but I am not sure how to do it.

I read that you need to install the raid driver to the current install before you clone it over.
I have no idea how to do that.

also If i decide to to fresh install ASROCK has provided drivers for 870 extreeme3 motherboard that you are supposed to use with a floppy drive???

who has floppy drive?

How would you get around this problem?

By floppy drive they also mean CD/DVD or USB thumb drive. 🙂

ok well does the usb drive need to be bootable?
I did not have any luck with that.
I guess i could use another dvd drive.
I have an extra one around here somewhere.

But i am really hoping to avoid reinstall of windows.
it takes me hours and hours to get all my apps installed and set up correctly.
and I just don't have that kind of time to spare at the moment.

No, the USB does not need to be bootable. Just unzip the file after you download it.

If your IDE drive is not part of the new RAID-0 you're creating it should not be difficult.
After you create your RAID array partition it in Windows Disk Management and assign it a drive letter (D: for example). Then just use your cloning software to clone from your C: drive (IDE) to the D: drive.

because if i try to set raid up now and boot normally it crashes with blue screen similar to if i tried to enable ahci on it.

I think it needs raid drivers installed first, and maybe other things first.

let me try to make that clear.

there is no option for raid on one drive and ide on others that I am aware of.

so if bios is set to raid but main drive is not part of raid array it still will not boot like i mentioned above.

You are correct. You will need to enable RAID first and then enable/install the driver in the current OS. This can be done easily if you have a second SATA controller on your motherboard. Move the current OS drive to the second controller and set the "main" controller to RAID, leaving the second controller (the one the OS is now hooked up to) at IDE, and set up your RAID array. When you boot into the OS, it will request to install/enable the RAID drivers. Once you do, reboot.

You should now be able to clone the OS to the RAID array and boot.
