played with my dad, game came with a map of planets that you could go to get minerals or animal life and needed to upgrade your ship to continue the game without getting blown up by aliens

no i don't think so. fun game where after collecting enough minerals and animal sources you headed back to home planet and turn in your cargo to upgrade your ship and then go back out again and do the same thing but this time aliens are involved

How long ago was this game made? I remember a similar game from about 1990s but the name escapes me now.
