Want to put Windows on SSD

Hello,

I recently built my own computer for the very first time. As storage I only used a 500 GB HDD. I also have an older Macbook Pro, in which I have been using a Samsung Evo 540. Today I decided I was no longer going to use the laptop, so I erased the SSD and put it into my PC.

I wanted to put Windows 10 in the SSD, so I erased my HDD and reinstalled Windows. As it turned out, Windows reinstalled into the HDD again (automatically). I hadn't formatted the SSD, so I did and gave it the letter E:.

My current situation is this:

- I have a HDD (C which contains the OS
- I have an SSD (E
- I want to make the SSD C:, containing OS
- I want to make the HDD E: for storage

How do I go about switching the letters and installing Windows on the SSD? The last thing I did was making the SSD boot-priority over the HDD in the BIOS

The drive should still appear in the install which I find odd, try formatting the SSD before you reinstall windows, if it still doesn't appear, unplug the HDD and see if that fixes it.

Format both, unplug the HDD and just keep the SSD plugged in until the OS is finished installing and you can get the the desktop. Turn off the system and plug the HDD in and boot the system, assign the letters you want and you should be all set.

As for having the SSD boot first go into the BIO and change the boot order.

I then erased my HDD and reinstalled Windows 10, hoping I would get the option to choose which disk to install it onto. It turned out it installs onto the HDD automatically.

My situation so far:
1. I've formatted the SSD and given it the channel name E:
2. The HDD has channel name C: and contains the OS
3. I want to switch it around by giving the SSD the name C: and install the OS onto it
4. I've given the SSD boot-priority in BIOS

How do I proceed? Do I reinstall again, hoping Windows will install on the SSD this time around, since it's prioritized? Will that give the SSD the name C:, or will it still be named E:?

take hdd out. Install win 10 with only the ssd installed, or it will use the hdd since it sees an operating system there now.
once installed, you can put hdd back in, do you want to move anything from it or just use as storage? Its a good idea to wipe it just in case PC decides to try to boot off it again, which will be confusing to you.

that will make ssd into C and the hdd will be E

Take out old storage and put SSD in.

Boot from USB/CD and install Windows 10 on the SSD.

Do all updates and drivers

Put old storage in and transfer what you want to the SSD which is now the Master OS drive. Then format old storage that you just put in recently via 'My Computer' window and restart your pc.

Job done.

old storage includes copy of windows, Need to use diskpart/clean to wipe it as windows won't let you do it inside the operating system, it recognises it as an old install.
