Want to Upgrade my Motherboard 939, DDR 400 so as to be able to use PCI express rather than old AGP card.

Have A8V Deluxe now, and just purchased 4400+ Dual core and OCZ 2GB DRR400 upgrade.

1. The ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe seems to be the best, but I don't need all it's features and I don't Overclock.
Just get it, the Price if isn't that big?

2. Is there another board just someone can recommend as good for simple purposes such as the Asus A8S-X ?

3. Can I just transfer my hard drive onto the new MB or is a reformatting involved?

Thanks.

1. I've had bad results with that M/B RMA'd 2 bad M/Bs in a row as have others of us with the same Model ASUS.

2. For SLI I'd reccommend the EPoX 9NPA3 SLI, for a single PCI-E the Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9

3. With WinXP you can do a repair installation and not loose any data, all you do is start the installation of WinXP just like you're installing from scratch intending to wipe the HDD.

After the F8 license agreement screen the XP installer will scan for previous operating systems, it will find you older XP installation, and give you a choice to repair.

At that point press the R key and the repair begins, you do not format the HDD, it will seem like its a complete install, because you'll even have to re-enter your XP product key, but when it finishes all your data will still be there.

That same repair also works with Win2K.

I agree with 4ryan6 aout 2 thing.. Avoid Asus with nvidia chipset, and the k8nf-9 is a very good motherboard. I now have an Asus A8R32-MVP (ATI chipset) and I think that it is the best motherboard I've owned.. second best was the gigabyte k8nf9. So, decide if you need the plain or the more featured one of the 2 I named and you'll have a fast system. Note that the Asus A8R32 is faster in hdd transfer, and that matter a lot with today's big file and apps.

I Love my A8N SLI. Been stable as hell for me for over a year, and my fsb is at 280. Its got everything I need and they are pretty cheap now. I've had a lot of good experiences so far with it, but maybe I got lucky. Check out the asus thread in the general homebuilt section for more input about asus.
hope it helps.
