I want to upgrade my current pc which is 7 yrs old. The current video card is the XFX Radeon HD 5850 DirectX 11 HD-585X-ZNFC. It's my first video card and it served me well. Plays older games quite well like Darksiders, Batman Arkham Asylum etc. Never had a problem with it.

I was thinking of getting the XFX Radeon RX480 DirectX 12 PX-480P8LFR6 It cost 259.98 after shipping and not counting the rebate on newegg.com

Their is also this one that I like the Sapphire nitro Radeon R9 Fury 100379NTOC+SR with shipping it's 276.98 again not counting the rebate and also on newegg.com

The XFX is 17 bucks cheaper and I like the brand. I never usde Sapphire before which looks like a beast. I do like the Sapphire video card look.

which one should I get and is their a different card worth getting in identical price range?

Haha i get what you are saying i've got a 390X myself (the card below the Fury) and it is indeed massive. You are also correct the Fury is not the newest generation Polaris it it the one after it (RX 400 series) but the Fury is still significantly...
The FURY is most definitely stronger and i would opt for it if you have a Power Supply that can run it as it is a very power hungry card. Not the best site sometimes but scroll to the bottom of it for Synthetic and Gaming benchmarks > http://hwbench.com/vgas/radeon-rx-480-vs-radeon-r9-fury. Hope this helps :)

Hi Cr05513y,

The PSU isn't even made anymore. It's the Corsair TX series 750W. I think it's overkill back then 7yrs ago when I first assembled the computer. Should be okay. The mobo is a msi p55-gd55 LGA 1156 and CPU is the intel i5 series Lynnfield.

I never used sapphire before but i think the xfx is a bit newer since its' part of the RX series? But the Sapphire does look like a sweet beast. I mean these cards get so much bigger and longer I'm surprise they dont get warped.

You are also correct the Fury is not the newest generation Polaris it it the one after it (RX 400 series) but the Fury is still significantly more powerful. The only reason to get a RX 480 over the Fury would be power supply not up to the task or it is too large for your case. Either would be a great GPU for 1080p High/Ultra or 1440p Mediumish but the Fury is a strong card. Don't worry about the vendors (XFX, Sapphire, etc) they are just different coolers. Although i agree the XFX looks nicer. Your choice is basically go for a Stronger card but have it be less efficient both in size, heat and power usage. Or go for the slightly weaker card to have good efficiency. Either way they are both good cards and your power supply would easily be up to running both despite it's age. 😉
