Hi my system specs are

I7 8700k @ 4.7ghz
32gb ddr4 ram 3000mhz
Amd 5700xt oc mech 8gb
Msi z370 gaming Pro carbon
Evga g5 850 watt

I have just sold my 5700xt for £420 and I.gonna save up the rest for a new gpu. Problem is which one do I go for I'm thinking a 3080. I have 4k 120hz display so that's why I was thinking a 3080 also would my psu be okay for a 3080 ?

Solution
Yes, your current PSU model from EVGA should be okay for the RTX 3080. No issues with this. Regarding the GPU upgrade it all depends on your budget, because gaming in 4K needs some serious GPU horsepower.

The RTX 3080 should be okay though.

I personally wouldn't get a 3080 for 4k gaming. 10 gb vram won't cut it for long in that resolution. Either look into the ti version (which has 12gb of vram) or if you wanna stay amd get a 6800xt (that has 16). High refresh rate at 4k is out of the question anyways (atleast on non competitive games) so don't bother with a 3090 or a 6900xt (unless you simply want the best because you just don't care, but i don't think it's your case since you were looking into buying a 3080).

And yes, your psu will be fine. Just make sure to run separate 8 pin pci e cables from it instead of using the y splitter. It's been proven that transient spikes on those cards can trigger the ocp protection on your psu making it shutdown (i was one of them lol).

10GB is still fine for now, I never encountered or saw any games that pushed above 8GB (yet), plus even with the most demanding games the 3080 is only 10% behind the 3080Ti at most and the 90.
